I was asked to create a response to the week's breaking news: Obama's gun control proposal. Rather than depict a gun, this design focuses on President Obama's act of signing the 23 executive orders. The cover references old cookbooks and ornate needlepoint patterns. By mixing lush foliage with blood and severed body parts, I tried to achieve an effect that is pleasant at first glance, but quickly becomes a bit gross and somewhat disturbing. The cover didn't survive the process; it got killed and eaten. Pratt 40-Year Bookplate http://nickmisani.com/Pratt-40-Year-Bookplate http://nickmisani.com/following/nickmisani.com/Pratt-40-Year-Bookplate Mon, 27 Aug 2012 15:50:51 +0000 Nick Misani Design 3980121 The Pratt Graduate Communications Design department is undergoing a series of changes; the most significant of which is probably the addition of an MFA program (from which I recently graduated). To inform prospective students about these changes, I was asked—together with 4 other designers—to design a book for the department. This letterpressed bookplate will be affixed to the inside cover of the first edition and commemorates the department's 40th anniversary. The sentence, originally from Greco-Roman theatre and literally translating to "God in (or 'from the') machine" refers to the theatrical custom of using a machine to lower the actor playing a god onto the stage. Bob grows his own organic habaneros to make his sauce and jelly, which are produced in small batches.
